WATCH: World-record football freestyler shows off skills in Wolverhampton

Ben Nuttall has been presented with his plaques after smashing two freestyling awards in a school in Wednesbury.

The 18-year-old used Ormiston Academy as his venue last May when he completed 41 neck passes in one minute with his freestyling partner Rebaz Mohammed.

On the same day he also did 187 kick-ups with a rugby ball, setting him another world record.

Having been released from a professional football club's academy as a youngster, Ben's life took a turn for the better when he discovered freestyling.

The teenager from Sutton Coldfield, Birmingham, said: "I was playing football from a young age, I was playing for the Birmingham City youth academy and at about 13 or 14 I was released and I was out for a while not doing much.

"I was on YouTube and stumbled across a freestyle football video and I was hooked, I was trying the tricks I saw in my garden, on the street and I got addicted starting off at the basic tricks and working my way to the harder ones.

"I stuck with it for years, hours of practice every day and it became my full-time job and my life.

"For me it's self-taught, it's just fun, it wasn't a chore that I was practising for hours.

"When I started I had no idea it could be my job, I was just doing it for fun - a lot of kids are into it now and it's really good to see.

"It's not easy and it takes dedication and hard work."

Ben boasts more than 13,000 followers on Instagram and 150,000 on video sharing platform Tik Tok, turning his hobby into a full-time job that allows him to perform at high-profile events.

He said: "I perform at events, corporate events and stages, a lot of sporting events and at football clubs at half-time and adverts for sports brands like Adidas.

"I do a lot of coaching with kids I like to give back, doing school workshops, youth clubs and young offenders in prisons.

"I started posting videos online to see my own progress and they were getting a lot of attention, especially in Birmingham and it just grew and grew and I started doing it in public in Birmingham.

"The stuff I do in public is quite crazy and people don't want to do it themselves, so they come onto my page and watch it, I enjoy posting my videos and getting feedback.

"I uploaded one video last week that got five million views, it was of me crossing a road in London and juggling across doing a few tricks, there seems to be big interest in those videos."

On March 2 Ben is travelling to Guinness World Record HQ in London as he attempts to earn his third world record when he takes on the most kick-ups while wearing 5kg on both feet - the current record stands at 60, with Ben looking to at least double that effort.

"I've been consistently getting over 170 in practice, so I should hopefully do it," he added.

"In the short term I'm doing more performances, so I'm doing the Arsenal vs Man United at half-time which is coming up, I have some TV appearances hear and there, I'm hoping to keep going, I see it as my legacy, and to keep growing my brand.

"Some people are still freestyling at 40 or 50-years-old, I don't think you could do it into your 70s but I do hope to do it for the rest of my life, it's helped my life in so many ways and I want to keep doing it and headline my own show and have my own academy in the future."
