Arts and cultural bosses in Wolverhampton are hoping the city’s literature festival will become a fixed annual feature on its calendar after pocketing extra funding.

The third festival is set to begin in four weeks and the council’s leisure chiefs have said they are keen to make the event a 'permanent part of Wolverhampton’s unique artistic and cultural appeal'.

A city council spokesman said: “Thanks to funding from the Arts Council, we fully intend to continue to build on what has become a very popular event on the city’s annual calendar and make it a permanent fixture.

“We have a great variety of entertainment lined up over three days at numerous venues across the city.

“The festival itself is made up of around 100 different events including talks, live performances and the chance for people to take part in practical workshops as well.

“Quite a variety of famous faces will be paying us a visit too.”

The festival kicks off with a free event at Wednesfield Library on Friday February 1, when local historian Ray Fellows will be giving a talk entitled ‘The Evolution of Wednesfield from the 1950s to the Modern Day’.
