Police probe into 'racist chanting' during Millwall and Wolves clash dropped
An investigation into alleged racist chanting at a match between Wolves and Millwall has been discontinued due to a lack of formal complaint.
The Metropolitan Police force had looked into reports of alleged racism from Millwall supporters at The New Den on Boxing Day.
But this week the force revealed the investigation had been dropped.
A spokesman said: "The Metropolitan Police Service have not received a formal complaint in regard to this matter, therefore there is no investigation to be held."
The Football Association, however, is still looking into the matter, a spokesman said last night.
Anti-racism charity Kick it Out received several reports over alleged racist chanting at the game, which finished 2-2.
In its annual report last year, the charity said there had been a 17 per cent rise in reporting incidents at games.
Out of those, 48 per cent were race related.
Chief executive Roisin Wood said: "English football has changed dramatically since our inception in 1993 – much of it for the better – but there is still work to do, and our committed staff, partners and most importantly participants across the game, will help us push forward.
"This gives us renewed motivation to challenge the prejudices still in the sport whist promoting inclusion for all."
Following the Boxing Day game, Millwall released a statement. It said: “The club.... wishes to reiterate that it operates a strict zero-tolerance policy to any abuse of this kind at its football matches.”
