Busy Wolverhampton street cordoned off by police after shop front comes loose
A busy shopping street was blocked off so firefighters could remove an unstable shop front at risk of being blown away by strong winds.
Emergency services cordoned off part of Dudley Street in Wolverhampton city centre earlier today while they dealt with the situation.
Firefighters set a nine-metre ladder up outside the former EE shop, situated in the middle of Thornton's and Footlocker, and quickly removed the unstable panels above the front of the store.
Police offices re-directed pedestrians through the Boots store opposite while the work was carried out.
West Midlands Fire Service said there was 'minor structural damage to the shop front due to high winds', which meant the scene needed to be sealed off so the panels could be removed.
The incident comes almost exactly one year after 29-year-old Wolverhampton University worker Tahnie Martin was killed in Dudley Street after being hit by debris caused by Storm Doris.
Flowers, cards and tributes were left outside the Dudley Street Starbucks last week for the anniversary of her death on February 23 last year.
