Chief Constable 'relieved' police officers mown down in Wolverhampton were not killed
A police chief has said he is 'relieved' two officers who were mown down by burglars were not killed.
The police constables were struck at garages behind homes in Westacre Crescent, Finchfield, Wolverhampton, in the early hours of Saturday morning while responding to reports of a burglary.
West Midlands Police Chief Constable Dave Thompson said the incident was 'profoundly serious' and called for anyone with information to come forward.
The officers, one male and one female, approached a Peugeot 407 when it sped off, hitting them both.
The female officer suffered serious leg injuries, while her colleague had minor injuries.
Mr Thompson told members of the Strategic Policing and Crime Board: "Two officers were deliberately run down. I am relieved this isn't a fatal issue we are dealing with.
"I think it is profoundly serious for officers to be put in that position.
"Any information people have around people responsible, we are determined to bring them to justice. It was a very, very dangerous incident."
