Wolves fans receive £100 fines in car parking error
Fines of £100 have been sent in error to Wolves fans who used a club car park ahead of the first home game of the season.
Supporters using the Whitmore Hill car park off Waterloo Road complained after receiving letters telling them to cough up £100.
But club bosses moved quickly to confirm the parking notices had been sent in error by contractor Britannia Parking who operate the site Monday to Friday.
The firm's scanners, used to detect vehicles parking without paying the correct amount, are usually de-activated on matchdays but were not on the opening day of the season when Wolves played Middlesbrough.
Wolves tweeted out information to fans to confirm the error.
Head of ticketing at Wolves, James Davies, confirmed all notices have been made void by the firm and anyone who has already paid will be refunded.
He said: "As soon as we were made aware of the issue we spoke to the contractor and they spotted the problem right away.
"They will be sending letters of apology and voiding the original notices."
The car park is set over two levels with a total of more than 160 spaces. VIPs including players' families are among those who use the site.
After the Middlesbrough match there were angry scenes as drivers were kept inside eight official car parks until pedestrians had dispersed under a new health and safety move.
