Micropub plan for former bank
Plans to create a micro pub at the site of a former bank close to a doctor's surgery have been submitted to the council.
The plans, if approved, could see a 165sq ft micro pub set up at 474 Stafford Road, between the Curry Lounge and the former Dental Health Stop premises.
It will be open from 11am to 10pm Monday to Sunday.
The property is currently vacant and if approved, the new pub could employee a total of three new staff - two part-time and one full-time.
The ground floor had previously been used as a branch of Barclays Bank whilst the first floor had houses offices. It is next-door-but-one to The Surgery on Stafford Road.
The news has so far been mostly welcomed by those living nearby as well as ward councillors.
Councillor Ian Angus, Labour councillor for Bushbury North, said: "The response from residents who have been in touch with me has been overwhelmingly positive.
"Micro pubs pride themselves in listening to their customers, serving excellent real ale, promoting conversation, and shunning all forms of electronic entertainment.
"I think this is exactly what a lot of local people have been crying out for - it has the potential to be a real winner."
The councillor posted about the plans on Facebook and people commented on the proposals.
Some were concerned about parking.
Ted Crutchley said: What is the parking provision in what is a property on a main road? I can see minimal shared parking to the rear of the property but it is not extensive."
Doreen Azzopardi said: "Think it's a good idea but agree with Ted about parking. My doctors is there and parking is a nightmare."
Susan Watton added: "Fantastic idea. The area needs something like this, as for parking it's on a main bus route and you shouldn't drink and drive."
Agent Cash Evans of Bruton Knowles declined to comment on the plans.
