First painted wolf revealed in Wolves in Wolves project

You’ve heard of a wolf in sheep’s clothing. Well here’s a wolf in garden gnome’s clothing. It is the first of 30 wolf sculptures to be decorated as part of the Wolves in Wolves trail. It will see the artworks planted around Wolverhampton just like The Big Hoot that captured the imagination in Birmingham during 2015, where owl sculptures were located throughout the city.

The painted wolf

This brightly coloured sculpture, including the bearded face of a gnome holding a mobile phone has been specially painted by artist Nigel James Kilworth, who studied in Wolverhampton faculty of art and design. He said: “I work in the garden a lot so that’s what inspired me. There’s also a nod to Wolverhampton Wanderers in there with the gold and black. The wolf sculptures will be fixed onto plinths and stand six feet tall. installed around the city Each one will form part of a trail looping around the heart of Wolverhampton.

Among the locations where the sculptures could be located include Wolverhampton Grand Theatre, The Way Youth Zone and the Express & Star. There will also be two in West Park.
