The yearly collection by Wheelchair charity Power Pleas Trust was the brainchild of the Wolves vice-president and former England cricketer.

To recognise her contribution to the good cause bosses decided the collection will now be known as Rachael’s Day.

Fundraisers were collecting ahead of Wolves home match against Blackburn.

Power Pleas Trust Chairman, Keith Berry, said the sum collected was £2,375.15 with an additional anonymous donation of £100 and gift aid of £618.79 making a grand total of £3,093.94.

The charity was supported on the day by members of Tettenhall Rotary Club.

Mr Berry, said: "The Rotary Club and Power Pleas are very grateful for the continuing support of the Wolves Community Trust and the Wolverhampton Wanderers Football Club in helping to achieve freedom, fun and force power for their most appreciative recipients since 1995."

Rachael died aged 77 in January following a short battle with cancer.

The charity tends to allocate the money raised from the annual collection to one individual and this year the money has been put towards a ‘Strikeforce’ powered football wheelchair.

The chair will be donated for use by Telford Powerchair FC who were previously provided with four electrically powered wheelchairs when based in Wolverhampton in 2011.
