Future of 200-year-old shop in Willenhall hangs in balance after unauthorised alterations are refused permission

A 200-year-old listed building in a Black Country town faces an uncertain future after planning permission was refused for unauthorised restoration work.

Pitor Lebowski had carried out a series of alterations to the early 19th century building in Willenhall Market Place without planning permission.

Mr Lebowski, who wanted to turn the former Pound Plus discount store into a coffee and dessert shop, said the changes had no impact on the fabric of the Grade II listed building.

He had updated the shop's electrics, dry-lined the downstairs walls with plasterboard, repaired the floorboards and installed secondary double-glazing on the upper floors.
