A garage could be torn down to make way for half a dozen new houses which, it is claimed, would “improve the aesthetics” of a Willenhall road if plans are approved.

A proposal has been submitted to Walsall Council to demolish the Daner Ltd building and create the six two-bedroom properties in its place.

Daner Limited, which submitted the application, said the site was “ideal” to create much-needed homes in the area as well as improving the appearance of the street.

The planned houses would be built as three pairs of semi-detached properties.

Planning agents J Mason Associates said: “The application site sits to the East of Willenhall town centre, occupying a corner plot.

“The site could be viewed as an ideal opportunity to improve the aesthetics of the site and provide additional housing for the local community.

“The situation of the site within an area of residential builds, retail, and services, allows a broad range of community facilities within a short distance of the site.

“The location of the site, within one kilometre of a long-established town centre comprising of retail, open space facilities, and close to public transport nodes are positive characteristics. The site is currently occupied."

Their report adds: “The three fundamental characteristics that the proposed development will exhibit are: it will create additional accommodation for the local area, it will act as an example of well-designed, considered housing and it will improve the overall appearance of the corner.

“The design of the dwellings has been carefully considered, informed though in house design team meetings, precedents, therefore allowing a well-designed, logical scheme to be produced.

“It is of the utmost importance to balance the scale of the proposal with open space on a site such as this to create a place which is not only habitable, but also engenders a positive impact on both mental and physical health.”

A decision on the scheme is expected to be made in August.
