Daniel Lawley appeared at Wolverhampton Crown Court today charged with possession of an offensive weapon in a public place and grievous bodily harm with intent.

Lawley, 34, of Allerton Lane, in West Bromwich, entered no pleas during the short hearing.

Judge Rhona Campbell remanded Lawley into custody ahead of another hearing on Wednesday, November 25.

The attack at the Willenhall store took place on October 11. A man in his 30s suffered a head injury and was taken to hospital.

The shop was shut soon afterwards but was back open as normal the following day.

A spokesman for the Range commended the staff in store their “courageous actions” after the incident.

They added: “Shop floor staff took appropriate action by administering first aid to the victim whilst the management team swiftly evacuated the building and phoned emergency services. This was all completed in an impressively calm and efficient manner with customer safety coming first in every instance.

“We would like to thank store staff and the emergency services for their help and wish the victim a fast recovery.”
