'Several' fire crews tackling 'major flood' affecting Wednesbury, Bloxwich and Darlaston residents following burst water main

South Staffs Water has issued an alert about a burst water main affecting Black Country homes.

The firm posted the update on the X account, formerly Twitter, earlier today (Saturday, October 2) warning residents of a burst main in Leabrook Road, Wednesbury, effecting properties in Wednesbury, Bloxwich & Darlaston.

It also said the issue will 'likely' effect properties in the WS3, WS10 and DY4 postcodes but is currently working to resolve the issue.

West Midlands Police, several fire crews, Tech Rescue vehicles, and a high Volume Pumping unit are currently in attendance tackling the 'major flooding'.

A spokesperson for South Staffs Water, said: "There is a burst main in Leabrook Road, Wednesbury, impacting properties in Wednesbury, Bloxwich & Darlaston.

"Properties in the WS3, WS10 and DY4 postcodes are likely to be affected.

"Thanks for your patience whilst we work to resolve the issue, and sorry for the inconvenience."

A spokesperson for West Midlands Fire Service, said: "Major Flooding. We have several fire crews including Tech Rescue vehicles and High Volume Pumping unit at a major water main burst on Leabrook Road North in Wednesbury. The road is completely flooded so please avoid the area if possible .

"We're working with multi agency partners to remove the standing water at the flooding in Wednesbury. Please avoid the area and drive safely. Roads impacted are as follows: Leabrook Rd, Leabrook Rd North, Banister Rd, Black Country New Rd, junction of Leabrook Rd & Great Bridge. "

A post on X from Walsall Police, said: "We are currently assisting with road closures."
