Mylee's father, Bill Billingham, 54, is believed to be the man who was arrested on Saturday night when Mylee was found stabbed at a home on Valley View in Brownhills.

He suffered a stab wound to his stomach and has been in hospital since the weekend, undergoing surgery yesterday.

His injury is not life threatening but he was deemed to be in a critical condition over the weekend, with police unable to speak to him or question him.

He is under sedation but officers hope to speak to him today, and in the process arrest him on suspicion of murder. He is in a serious but stable condition, according to police.

Mylee, who died in hospital a short time after being stabbed, underwent her post mortem yesterday with West Midlands Police awaiting the results.

Today St James Church, in Brownhills, is opening for people to light a candle, reflect and remember Mylee.

Yesterday Mylee's former headteacher Andy Nicholls paid an emotional tribute to the youngster outside St James' Primary.

"Everyone at the school is completely devastated," Mr Nicholls said.

"Mylee was dearly loved by us all. Her smile lit up the room - in fact it never left her face.

"She was a fun loving, happy eight year old who should have had her whole life in front of her.

"She took a full part in school life, particularly enjoying singing and performing.

"She was just a lovely little girl. Our hearts go out to her family."
