WATCH: Van devastated in blaze on side of Walsall road

A van was gutted in a suspected arson attack which saw it go up in flames on the side of the road.

Two fire crews were called to Slacky Lane in Bloxwich this morning where it is believed the van was deliberately torched.

West Midlands Fire Service received a 999 call at 9.18am and ten firefighters attended the scene in total.

Footage of the moment the first crew arrived at the scene has been released by Bloxwich fire station, showing flames and smoke pouring out of a van dumped on a grassy verge.

Crews had to use hydraulic cutting equipment to access the engine compartment and put the flames out and the van was left devastated - with just charred metalwork remaining.

West Midlands Police are investigating the incident but it is thought that the fire was started on purpose.

A spokesperson for the fire service said: "The incident involved one van which was well alight.

"We went one crew from Walsall and one from Bloxwich. One hose reel jet was used on the blaze and the incident was dealt with by around 10am.

"It is believed to have been started deliberately so we requested the police at the scene."
