Fire service issues update on 'complex' blaze at recycling plant in Aldridge - investigation underway

The fire service received 'numerous' calls about a fire at a Biffa recycling plant in Aldridge at about 1.15pm. Due to the size and nature of the fire, several crews comprising 60 firefighters were dispatched.
WMFS said that the fire appeared to have started in a recycling compactor with an unknown quantity of waste alight, which generated a lot of smoke in the area - residents were advised to keep doors and windows shut and stay away from the area.
Today (January 5) WMFS has said the cause of the fire is yet to be determined - with investigations now underway.
Thankfully all persons were accounted for yesterday.
A spokesperson for WMFS said: "West Midlands Fire Service remain on scene liaising with the site managers, however we are pleased to report the fire is out.
"Throughout this incident, 32 sets of breathing apparatus, four hose reel jets, two main jets, a hydraulic platform and a drone have been used to extinguish the fire.
"This severe fire at the recycling plant was a complex incident, with a complex layout to manage. However the incident is now under control.
"The cause of the fire is yet to be determined and investigations are underway."
