New units plan in Aldridge takes step forward
Two new commercials units that could bring jobs and business to Aldridge have moved a step closer after initial works were given the go-ahead.
Steven Tandy, of Lichfield-based real estate firm PSST LLP, is looking to build the two premises on the former Jack Allen Holdings site in Middlemore Lane in Aldridge.
And the company has now been granted permission for means of access for the site, while the principle of the development has also been approved.
This plan first emerged in 2018 and in October last year, when Walsall Council faced the prospect of facing Government inspectors after the company appealed against non-determination.
But that was thrown out by the planning inspectorate because the firm was too late to make an appeal.
Initially planners were also concerned about access to the site and the ability for large vehicles to manoeuvre safely, as well as issues relating to coal mining.
Since then, PSST LLP has worked with Walsall Council’s planning officers who now support the scheme and say it would be a boost for the area.
Officer Alison Ives said: "This came to a committee last October as an appeal against non-determination but it was turned away by the planning inspectorate because they were too late to make the appeal.
"Since then, the applicants have been working with officers to try to address the reasons that we were previously recommending a refusal on it.
"It has been used for storage of car bodies in the past. It is a large site in an industrial area adjacent to Anchor Meadow playing fields. It’s very well screened from residential areas.
"It is a core employment area and it is welcomed that it will bring new business and jobs into this area and it is in accordance with planning policies."
