Brownhills care home bids for expansion again with hope to create more jobs
Owners of a care home in Brownhills are hoping for a case of second time lucky as they look to expand the facility.
Homestead Care Home, based in Ogley Road, wants to add a first floor extension which would add 17 new bedrooms to the 34-bed facility and create new jobs in the process.
It is the second application the home has put forward in a matter of months, having had a proposal, also to increase the size by 17 bedrooms, refused last year.
Walsall Council planning officers rejected the first application over concerns about the excessive size the building would become and loss of privacy for neighbouring properties.
In the current application, representatives said revised plans have been put forward following advice received.
As well as increasing the size of the building, the home said an extra nine full time and 10 part time new jobs would be created as a result.
Agents PPC Surveyors said: “Homestead is a Care Home registered to provide personal care and accommodate up to 34 people.
“The care home is located off Ogley Road, with off road parking. The care home is specialised in providing care to residents with dementia.
“An extension of another storey above the ground floor to the rear will produce an extra 16 bedrooms with ensuites, a lounge with a balcony to the rear overlooking the large lawn area.
“The extension for the additional bedrooms will help to generate more jobs, due to increase demand for care.
“We believe the layout of the care home provides adequate means of access for all residents, employees and visitors.
“The additional modern bedrooms including ensuites will be DDA complaint and exceed minimum rooms sizes providing an enjoyable and pleasant personal space for residents.
“The new lounge with a balcony will overlook scenic green area providing positive wellbeing to the residents.”
