Dozen new apartments could be created in plans to revamp Walsall factory
More than a dozen new apartments could be created if plans to revamp a Walsall factory are given the go-ahead.
A proposal has been put forward by Second City Housing Ltd to convert Hatherton Works, in Leamore Lane, into 15 new flats.
The application to Walsall Council planning officers is seeking ‘prior approval’ for the scheme with a decision expected to be made next month.
The three storey building has been listed as up for sale on Proplist with an asking price set at £350,000.
In the application, the developer said it was situated in a predominantly residential area and would be a ‘car free’ scheme and would have minimal impact on neighbours.
A transport statement by David Tucker Associates said: “The site is in an accessible location and within walking distance of a range of local services and amenities.
“It is located within close proximity to bus stops and the strategic local road network.
“The development will be ‘car-free’, however there will be a small proportion of delivery and servicing vehicles to/ from the development. It is considered that these movements will be minimal and will not result in a material impact on the local road network.
“There are no parking restrictions on the roads surrounding the site. The results of the car parking beat survey have demonstrated that there is spare capacity and convenient off-site parking opportunities on the local road network for visitor or residents parking for the site.
“The site is located within a sustainable area in close proximity to local services and facilities and a good frequency of bus services and walking and cycling links, thereby reducing the need to own a car.
“It is therefore concluded that there is sufficient on-street parking available in the area to cater for the development proposals in the event that a resident at the site owns a car.”
