Three pairs of semi-detached homes will be built on Stafford Street after Walsall Council planners granted permission to the development put forward by applicants listed as Mr Ali and Mrs Arif.

The site sits on the corner of Blue Lane East junction and has been used as a second hand car sales business for a number of years.

Most recently, S M Motors was the listed business on site but that shut several years ago and it has been vacant ever since.

Each of the half a dozen properties would have three bedrooms and parking spaces for two cars each. They admit the gardens are small but adequate enough for the location.

In their application, they said: “The site has been used for many years as a second-hand car sales pitch, the business ceased trading two or three years ago and has been vacant since then.

“The surrounding area is very mixed as said previously a school is next to the site with the caretakers house adjacent, Stafford Street itself is lined with small to medium sizes shops with living accommodation over.

“The wider area is populated with industrial and warehousing units.

“The site is not far from the town centre where houses of this type are desperately needed.

“Access to each house will be from the existing road network which runs around and through the town.

“Numerous local shops are in the vicinity and schools, community facilities, and religious establishments are all available within walking distance.

“It is considered that the site is in a suitable location which gives a development opportunity in a highly sustainable location.

“The proposal would support the government’s objective of significantly boosting the supply of homes.”
