Double yellow lines painted to stop dangerous parking on Willenhall road
Measures have finally been introduced in a small Willenhall road to stop “dangerous” parking that residents say has made their lives a misery.
Double yellow lines have been laid down on Wrighton Close in a bid to stop motorists parking irresponsibly as they visited nearby shops, which almost resulted in crashes or stopped people getting to their own drives.
Residents say they faced verbal abuse from drivers if they dared to challenge them when they parked.
A petition was organised by ward councillors Adam Hicken and Stacie Elsom back in 2020 calling for restrictions in a bid to bring peace to the street after years of misery.
Councillor Hicken said he was delighted the lines had been painted a couple of days ago and hoped they’d have the desired effect.
He said: “It’s great to see these double yellow lines now put in place after years of misery for local residents.
“The lines will now also help to prevent careless parking on the junction of Wrighton Close, which had caused many near misses.
“We will keep an eye on what happens over the coming months, but it is a great start and hopefully resolves most of the problems that residents faced.”
The petition, which was handed to Walsall Council’s cabinet in September 2020, was signed by more than 20 people – representing almost every household in the street.
They said the issue of dangerous parking, especially at the junction with the busy Essington Road, had been going on for a number of years.
Councillor Elsom, who was a local campaigner at the time, said: “Local people are rightly fed up with inconsiderate drivers blocking access to their properties.
“They have spoken to many of the drivers and regularly face abuse. Hopefully with the evidence that has been submitted and this petition, we can finally fix this problem.”
