Magician conjures his way to award win
A magician has conjured his way to the top of a wedding entertainer competition.
Owen Strickland, from Aldridge, has been crowned Best Wedding Entertainer West Midlands Region 2021 at The Wedding Industry Awards.
In a year that has been tough for all hospitality businesses, including his own with 70 weddings cancelled, he hopes the award will be the start of a brighter year once the vaccine has been rolled out.
The 47-year-old, who has been a magician for eight years, said: "It's the third year I've won the award, I won in 2017 and 2018 then I had a couple of years off.
"This year has been an awful year for the whole industry, I've lost about 70 weddings this year, most have rebooked for next year but it's a bit of a worry still, so it's nice that the year has ended on a high.
"There's a few wedding awards but this is the only one where people whose weddings you've performed at in the last 12 months can vote.
"I'm very much a close-up magician, I can perform at various times of the day, I do cards, money, jewellery, ropes, fire, it gets great reaction shots.
"The award brought a nice smile after a horrible year."
