One Walsall, an organisation which supports the voluntary sector in the town, is looking to build a team of 100 non-clinical volunteers to support the roll out of the Covid-19 vaccination across the borough.

Walsall Manor Hospital was one of the first in the country to administer the vaccine on Tuesday, when the NHS Healthcare Trust was chosen as the first in the Black Country to do so.

Last week, health bosses said they were preparing for delivering 400,000 jabs over a six month period with the most vulnerable residents and health care workers the first to be given the vaccine.

One Walsall said the recruitment drive for volunteers will assist with the wider programme in the town.

Tasks for volunteers will include providing guidance on site to entry points for vaccinations and exits; directing traffic/vehicles/pedestrians and providing guidance for car parking on site; ensuring that people maintain social distance whilst queuing for vaccinations; and supporting staff with light administrative duties required for processing people as they move in and out of buildings.

The organisation confirmed volunteers will be given the necessary ID and equipment as well as being assigned with an on-site supervisor.

A spokeswoman for One Walsall said: “This winter, the UK national government is looking to roll out vaccinations on a never before seen scale to the public.

“One Walsall are recruiting for up to 100 local volunteer heroes to support the Walsall roll-out of the Covid-19 Vaccine as soon as possible.

“If you would like to offer your support to our health and care services in the mobilisation of this programme during at this historic time in all our lives, this may be the opportunity for you to help make a difference.”
