House in Walsall could become children’s care home
A large terraced house in Walsall could be converted into a home for children with behaviour issues, if plans are given the go-ahead.
Silverlining Childcare Ltd is looking to open a the new facility that will see up to six children aged between 11 and 17 living at the property in Wednesbury Road.
In their application, the provider says the children have a range of emotional and behavioural disorders.
A team of trained staff will be present at the property, working in shifts around the clock, and the youngsters will living in a “family environment”.
In the application, agents Inc Design Associates said: “The proposed children’s care facility intends to operate as a six bed, Ofsted Registered, EBD provision for young people aged between 11-17.
“The young people will each have their own bedrooms, whilst living together in a family environment.
Sustainable
“The home will provide regulated care, 24 hours a day, for children and young people with complex needs. This will be delivered by an experienced and qualified staffing team, trained to meet the needs of the young people.
"In line with Walsall Councils Site Allocation Document (SAD), the council will encourage the provision of housing for people with special needs, including single people, the elderly, people with disabilities and any other groups who require specialist accommodation, in locations that would be acceptable for general housing.
“Such housing will be particularly encouraged in and close to centres, provided the sites are not required for centre use.
“The existing dwelling is in a sustainable location, which is in a well-established residential area close to Caldmore Local Centre, and Walsall Town Centre.
“There is also a bus stop directly adjacent to the property on Wednesbury Road, providing public transport links serving the borough and wider area.”
The proposal is currently being considered by planning officers at Walsall Council.
