Ester Naylor checks on the installation of the repaired window

Ester Naylor, from Halesowen, was tasked with bringing the Light of the World window from St Matthew’s Church, Walsall, back to life.

After carrying out repairs and restoration work on the display, it has been reintroduced into the nave of the church.

The display was originally made by Burlison and Grylls, who produced windows for churches across the country, in 1921.

Ms Naylor, who has run Off The Wall Stained Glass since 2002, previously said the stained glass window needed to be replaced with new painted pieces.

She said at the time: “It’s lost quite a bit of glass, which needs to be replaced with new painted pieces.

"It will be dismantled and put together again with new lead.

“It’s usually the lead and the cement holding the glass together that deteriorates over time but the glass will usually go on for decades and decades.”

Ms Naylor, who learned her trade in the industry from her father, said she found stained glass pieces at churches “very beautiful” due to the mixture of colours and light.

She specialises in making bespoke windows for houses, churches, schools and businesses.

Ms Naylor began learning the craft at the age of nine and now runs her own business using traditional methods.
