“Dangerous” parking on a small Walsall road has resulted in residents being subjected to abuse, it has been claimed.

A petition was handed in to Walsall Council’s cabinet at a meeting on Wednesday by Councillor Adam Hicken calling for parking restrictions on Wrighton Close.

People living there said the unacceptable parking has at times led to vehicles being unable to access properties and it is a problem they have had to face for many years.

And when motorists have been challenged, the residents said they have been met with abuse.

The petition was organised by ward councillor Adam Hicken and local campaigner Stacie Elson and more than 20 signatures – representing almost every house in Wrighton Close – were collected.

Evidence

The request for parking restrictions will now be considered by Walsall Council highways officers.

Councillor Adam Hicken said: “Residents had complained numerous times in the past to Walsall Council and other councillors.

“They approached me asking for support and I have worked with them to collect what we believe is sufficient evidence to the ongoing issues with inconsiderate and dangerous parking.

“The residents have kindly supported us in getting the signatures for this petition which will hopefully force Walsall Council to act.

“I would like to thank all of the residents who assisted with getting this petition, which is more difficult with the ongoing pandemic.”

And Stacie Elson added: “Local people are rightly fed up with inconsiderate drivers blocking access to their properties.

“They have spoken to many of the drivers and regularly face abuse. Hopefully with the evidence that has been submitted and this petition, we can finally fix this problem.”
