Flats plan for empty Walsall offices approved
Disused offices just outside Walsall town centre are to be converted into apartments – after planners gave the thumbs up to a proposal.
Seven one-bedroom and three two-bedroom flats will be created above an existing restaurant and a shop in Vicarage Place.
Walsall Council planners gave the green light to the plans and representatives for the developer said there was a need for more residential properties in the town centre.
The offices have been vacant for some time and the windows are currently boarded up. As part of this redevelopment, five parking and 10 bicycle spaces will be created.
In the application, planning agents A&I Designs, said: “The site is located on the south side of Vicarage Place within a terrace of existing properties.
“Access into the building is both of Vicarage Place and via a service yard area to the rear.
“It is unknown when the building was constructed but it has had various uses throughout its life currently having tenants in ground floor of a shop and restaurant.
“In recent years the building has had various works undertaken for different tenants. The second floor is currently vacant and all the windows are boarded over.
“Recently the change of use to apartments was presented to the council planning department via a pre-application.
“The property is located on the edge of the city centre where there is a lack of one and two bed apartment properties and a demand for this type of property.”
