Driver flees after car hits wall and lands on roof in Walsall

A driver fled from the scene of a crash after hitting a wall and flipping the car, leaving four people injured.

A man was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham with potentially serious injuries after the crash in Lichfield Road, Shelfield, at about 1.15am today.

Three other people from the car were treated for injuries not believed to be serious and taken to Walsall Manor Hospital.

Police have now said they believe the driver fled prior to their arrival.

Three ambulances, two paramedic officers and a critical care car attended the scene along with firefighters.

A spokeswoman for West Midlands Ambulance said: “On arrival, crews were presented with four patients, all from the same vehicle.

“We treated a man for potentially serious injuries before taking him to the Queen Elizabeth in Birmingham for further treatment.

“The other three occupants of the car were treated for injuries not believed to be serious and taken to Walsall Manor Hospital for further assessment.”

A spokeswoman for West Midlands Police said: "We were called to the junction of New Street and Lichfield Road, Shelfield, Walsall, at 1.20am today after reports a car hit a wall.

"Four people were taken to hospital with injuries which are not believed to be serious.

"The driver of the car fled the scene prior to police arrival."
