Repairs begin on Walsall sinkhole as frame installed to protect workers
Work has begun fixing the huge sinkhole which opened up in a road after the site was made safe for Severn Trent to begin.
The hole opened up in Stafford Street, Walsall, last week, next to the junction with Proffitt Street outside Tyre City.
Severn Trent said they had to make the site safe so it does not collapse before teams could start the repair work.
A spokesman for Severn Trent said: "We’ve started work on site having spent the weekend protecting a 22in water pipe, which belongs to South Staffs, and making the hole safe for our teams to get into by fixing a special frame in place to make sure the sides don’t collapse.
"In addition, we’ve been carrying out more CCTV assessments of the sewer as a whole and have been tankering away the waste water that would normally flow through it.
"We’re still looking at four weeks for completion as it’s a brick culvert rather than a sewer pipe, which makes it more time consuming to fix."
