Walsall Manor Hospital workers and visitors have been warned they will not be able to get on the site from Moat Road after the "depression" formed on Thursday.

The news comes a week after a huge sinkhole opened up in Stafford Street, Walsall, caused by a collapsed drain.

Severn Trent has said the sinkhole will take about four weeks to repair.

This latest incident has closed Moat Road from the junctions of Forrester Street and Wilbraham Road outside the Manor Hospital.

Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust tweeted saying: "We have been notified during drainage works on Moat Road a hole has appeared.

"There is now temporary manual traffic diversions which will cause some disruption to staff and visitors leaving the car parks."

A spokesman for Walsall Council said: "Please be aware that due to the appearance of a depression in the carriageway of Moat Road in Walsall the road will shortly be closed to through traffic between the junctions of Forrester Street and Wilbraham Road in order for further investigation works to take place.

"The depression is located adjacent to the Manor Hospital access road and therefore it will not be possible to enter or leave the car parks from Moat Road. Please use A4148 Pleck Road to access or exit the site.

"Wilbraham Road is unaffected but all access and egress will need to be from the west (Alumwell Road). Accident and Emergency services are located from Wilbraham Road.

"A signed diversion route will be in operation for affected traffic using Moat Road, Alumwell Road, Ida Road and A4148 Pleck Road and vice versa.

"Updates will be sent in due course when further information is available.

"Delays to through traffic are expected."

"We’ll have teams on-site on Friday to start the repair and we’re hoping to return the road back to normal by the weekend if there are no complications. Again, we’re sorry for the inconvenience, especially to those living and working in the area.”
