One-way system to tackle road rage fights in Walsall

People living in Walsingham Street, Moncrieffe Street, Florence Street and Lumley Road in Chuckery say they have been living with road rage issues for years.

They said the problems are caused by vehicles coming from opposite directions, which are unable to pass each other due to parked cars either side, then refusing to reverse back to break the deadlock.

Other issues include emergency services and bin lorries not being able to get up the roads and damage caused to residents’ cars when motorists do reverse back.

But Walsall Council could now introduce a one-way system along the four roads in a bid to stop flashpoints.

Moncriefe Street resident Amar Razaq, a flight attendant, said: “Early hours in the morning, people are beeping their horns telling people to reverse, there have been a lot of confrontations.

“You get a lot of people arguing in the street. This happens on a daily basis.

“I drive a brand new car and there has been a lot of damage from people who do reverse back up the street. People don’t look and they scrape into the side of parked vehicles. just want to see a one-way system which will cause less traffic issues and avoid confrontations.”

Rizwan Gulzar, who has lived in the area for 10 years, added: “I’ve seen fighting in the street. When cars come from opposite ends of the street, they meet in the middle and no one wants to go back.”

A Walsall Council spokeswoman said: “Only when those concerns or objections have been considered will the council be in a position to confirm the final arrangements. “

From a traffic management and road safety perspective, the council considers that the implementation of a one way system would be beneficial.”
