Walsall Ramblers ready to welcome New Year walkers
A group of walkers in the Black Country are encouraging residents to join them as part of their New Year’s resolutions.
The Walsall group of Ramblers meet fortnightly for Saturday walks and weekly for Sunday walks.
The fortnightly Saturday walks are aimed at those who are either new to walking or haven’t walked in a while, and are usually between four to five miles long.
While, the weekly Sunday walks consist of longer distances and prove popular with walkers.
On Saturday a group of nine walked four miles around Chasewater, while on Sunday the group went on a 9.5 mile circular walk to Abbots Bromley. The group are now encouraging new members to join them in January to kick-start the new year.
Tracey Freeman, who helps to coordinate the Saturday walks, said: “We do a Saturday walk every other week which is normally between four to five miles long – we go to Middleton Lake, Chasewater and Sandwell Valley, all local places.
“This Saturday, nine of us took part in a short five mile walk around Chasewater. We do see more people joining us after Christmas and our Sunday walks are better attended.
“We are always encouraging new members to join us and we actively encourage people to sign up.”
For one of their first walks of 2020, on Sunday, January 5, the group will head to Wenlock Edge for a 7.5 mile circular walk.
The group will leave Walsall College Shoppers car park at 8.30am. Non-members are welcome.
