New Costa Coffee shop to be built in Walsall
A new drive-through Costa Coffee shop is due to open in a Walsall retail park – bringing 11 new full-jobs to the area.
An application by Ropemaker Properties Ltd to build the Costa on existing car parking space at Walsall Retail Park, in Reedswood Way, has been granted permission by council officers.
A total of 19 regular car parking spaces out of a total of 519 will be lost as a result of the proposal.
But the applicants say the new facility will create 11 new full-time jobs and provide a boost to the local economy.
The Costa will be open to customers from 5am until 11pm, although the company will operate 24 hours to allow for servicing.
Walsall Retail Park currently houses a 24-hour McDonald’s restaurant, Sainsbury’s store and petrol station, B&M Home Store, Matalan, Intersport Sporting Pro, Carphone Warehouse, Pets at Home and Dunhelm.
A planning statement to officers said: “The owners of Reedswood Retail Park are currently looking to invest in the site.
“The filling of vacant space and the diversification of uses creates an opportunity to improve the offer and experience at the retail park.
“The addition of a Costa Coffee pod will provide a service currently unavailable to the park’s existing customers."
