This is the site of a former police station in Walsall which has been transformed from a towering six-storey block to rubble in just a few weeks.

Work to demolish the old station, on Green Lane, started at the end of January, after plans were approved last year.

The site has been earmarked for a 'mixed-use' development.

How the station used to look

Councillor Christopher Jones, for Birchills Leamore, said he hopes the site will become new businesses and provide jobs.

He said: "The police station is obviously a sad loss, my worry is that I know the police are based in the Civic Centre and I remember quite a few years ago they were after somewhere close to the town centre with public access.

"Public access for the people if you're in the south of Walsall would be in Bloxwich. Policing is a concern for the whole country.

"We're glad that the place has been demolished as it was attracting quite a bit of anti-social behaviour.

"Obviously Walsall could do with business, it would be very welcome to try and kick the economy in Walsall to create jobs. That would be advantageous, but i am sad to see the police station go."

Workers for DSM Demolition have torn down the building bit by bit over the last few weeks and now piles of stone are all that can be seen.

The station, which closed down in 2016, was one of 27 to be shut by police in a bid to save money.

Shirley station in Solihull has also been sold and the two deals have resulted in a combined £2.25m for the force.

Selling off eight police buildings across the West Midlands has netted more than £4m in total.

Corbally Property Investments bought the six-storey building last year.
