Blaze at flat blocks Walsall road
Smoke billowed out of the window of a flat in Walsall as a fire gutted a room.
Ablewell Street was partially blocked while firefighters tackled the blaze which left drivers queuing down the street at rush hour today.
No injuries were reported after the fire was controlled and only one room of the flat above a shop was affected.
The fire service was first called just after 3.30pm and remained at the scene two hours later. Walsall Fire Station tweeted saying: "Both crews from Walsall and Bloxwich have attended a second floor flat fire. A fire investigation is now in progress.
"This is why we advise people to close doors before going to bed and leaving the property."
