Lucas takes centre stage to open Cancer Research superstore in Walsall
A schoolboy who survived advanced leukaemia has opened a new Cancer Research charity superstore in his home town.
Lucas Reece, seven, cut the ribbon at the opening ceremony for the Midlands' first Cancer Research UK superstore at Crown Wharf shopping centre in Walsall.
The 6,000 sq ft store is the biggest store the charity has in the region and is more than five times the size of an ordinary Cancer Research store.
It offers a number of items at discounted prices including clothing, books and toys.

The youngster was diagnosed with cancer in 2013 and after his initial treatment failed he was given the most intense form of chemotherapy which has since been successful.
Doctors told his parents Michelle and Chris that Lucas had one of the highest cell counts of the disease that they had ever seen.
Lucas said: “I’ve always wanted to do something like this – cut the ribbon to open a shop.
"I hope lots of people come and do their shopping here because it makes more money to help people with cancer.”
Michelle said: “If it wasn’t for research, Lucas wouldn’t be here today.
"We are thrilled to be at the heart of celebrations today to help launch this superstore.
"It will raise so much for vital research into cancer and also be such a positive force for good in the community.”
Lucas also had his first day at Alumwell Junior School this September.
Volunteer
The store is looking for volunteers to help keep it running with flexible hours available.
The shop is open from 9.30am - 6.30pm on Monday to Friday, from 9am - 6pm on Saturdays and 10am - 4.30pm on Sundays.
People interested in volunteering can call the store on 01922 633137 for more information.
Cancer Research is also urging people to donate good-quality clothes, shoes and bags to the store and people can find out more about the charity's shops at www.cancerresearchuk/shop.
