Reagan Asbury murder trial: Alleged killer caught on CCTV wearing just pants and socks 'after fleeing murder scene'
A murder suspect was captured on camera wearing only boxer shorts and socks after fleeing the scene of a stabbing in Walsall and dumping his blood-stained clothes en route, a murder trial has heard.
Tyrone Andrew walks calmly along the corridor of his block of flats in Derby and emerges eight minutes later wearing jeans, trainers and a camouflage jacket with distinctive shark’s teeth markings on the hood, CCTV played to a jury showed.
The 21-year-old is accused of fatally stabbing Reagan Asbury, 19, from Pelsall, outside Walsall Town Hall after violence broke out among spectators at a boxing title fight on October 14 last year.
After changing his clothes, a jury saw footage of him meeting up with a woman and going to another apartment block in Derby. The pair are then picked up on CCTV outside a Sainsbury’s store where Andrew is seen to wipe what appears to be blood from his right hand. Soon afterwards they get into a taxi and are driven away.
More from the murder trial:
Camera footage at Birmingham Airport shows Andrew arriving alone at 4:25am and queuing at a check-in desk. The jury has heard how he told airport staff that he had booked a flight to Amsterdam but he was told they could not find any record of the booking.
Andrew returned to the desk and said he had booked the flight from Luton Airport and asked how much it would cost to book another flight. He paid almost £90 cash for a seat on the 7:10am plane to the Dutch capital.
However, later footage shows him being escorted through Arrivals with a member of staff after falling asleep and missing his flight. He queued at the Flybe check-in again and eventually boarded an aircraft at 10:50am.
'He knew he had done wrong'
Mr Michael Burrows, QC, prosecuting, told the jury in his opening: “We say Tyrone Andrew knew he had done wrong and fled the country.” From Amsterdam Andrew made his way to Barcelona where he was arrested in December.
With him in the dock are Lavelle Patrice, 22, Declan Kemp-Francis, 23, and Ryandeep Sidhu, 22, who are charged with lesser offences in connection with the violence that night.
Patrice, who is seen on CCTV hurling a chair during clashes inside the town hall and throwing a bottle towards Mr Asbury outside as he is being stabbed, was arrested at his home in Derby on November 8 but claimed not to know Andrew or anything about the stabbing.
Kemp-Francis, who was also allegedly involved in the fighting and gave Andrew a lift back to Derby, was arrested at work on November 2. He denied he was guilty of any offence but otherwise gave a ‘no comment’ interview.
Sidhu told police he left the town hall when the disturbance broke out and returned to his car where two men approached him. He said one was covered in blood and threatened him with a knife which he dropped into his hand. Sidhu then dropped the knife into the car but suggested it was not there when he drove off.
Andrew, of St Helen’s Street, Derby, denies murder. Kemp-Francis of Dickens Square, Sunny Hill, Derby, and Patrice of Heavenwood Grove, Littleover, Derby, are both charged with violent disorder and Ryandeep Sidhu of Lidgate Close, Derby, is accused of perverting the course of justice.
Kemp-Francis is also charged with perverting the course of justice. All four deny all the charges.
The trial continues.
