Police arrested a driver on suspicion of drink-driving and causing death by dangerous driving.

A 58-year-old, from Walsall, has since been released pending further investigation.

The crash between the bike and a Rover car happened on Broadway West, Walsall, on Tuesday at 11.30pm.

Ambulance staff arrived to find two victims – understood to be aged 18 and 19 – in cardiac arrest at the scene.

The men were confirmed dead a short time later. It is believed they were on their way home from work.

Flowers have been laid at the scene including some from an older sister of one of the victims.

One of the tributes at the scene

Ribbons of police tape were tied to traffic lights and metal railings around the scene.

Bouquets of flowers and touching messages were yesterday being laid by tearful friends and family on the pavement.

One tribute read: “Alex, taken too soon, God bless” and another said “Tarik you will be sorely missed – taken too soon from us.”

Another read: “How can this happen to such an amazing person? Forever missed.”

Another of the messages

Waquas Riasat, 31, lives just opposite to where the crash happened and was the first on the scene.

He said: “I heard something loud outside. I called the ambulance straight away and they advised me to do CPR.

“I don’t know the lads but I know they’re local.”

The community has been grieving for the teenagers

One neighbour, who asked not to be named, said: “My husband heard a loud bang at about 11pm and went outside. The boys were lying in the road. He called an ambulance. Everyone was outside. All the neighbours.

“One of our neighbours was doing CPR. It was terrible.”
