Walsall Works Expo to offer digital CVs and hundreds of jobs all under one roof
Preparations are underway for the biggest ever jobs and skills event to be held in Walsall.
More than 80 local employers and training providers will come together at the Walsall Works Expo event next month to offer jobs, training and apprenticeship opportunities to more than 1,100 people.
The event, on March 15, has been organised by Walsall Council’s Employment and Skills team, in partnership with the DWP and The VIEW programme and will be held at The Hub, Walsall College between 12.30pm and 5pm.
Utility giant Homeserve will be joined by the Express & Star, Walsall Football Club, Walsall College, National Express, whg, and organisations across various industries and sectors.
Councillor Lee Jeavons, deputy leader of Walsall Council and portfolio holder for regeneration said: “This is the third year we have held the Walsall Works Expo and this year’s event promises to be bigger and better like nothing before.
“We’re working really hard to encourage as many as people to attend; We have tried to design the event so that it meets a multitude of needs, starting in the morning with a career showcase for young school aged pupils, followed by a lunchtime session for employers.
The finale of the event is the main Expo in the afternoon which expects to see over 1100 local jobseekers in attendance. With 20,000 local people claiming out of work benefit and the introduction of the Universal Credit, it’s imperative that the Council plays its part in helping local residents to be become economically active.”
Forward thinking service, Black Country Impact, which provides free courses to young adults aged 16-29 will give visitors the chance to stand out from the crowd by helping them to create a Video CV.
“A traditional CV outlines your skills, qualifications and experience, whereas a video CV allows an employer to get a feel for your personality,” added Cllr Jeavons.
“It’s another tool in a jobseeker’s toolbox.”
The day will also see an apprenticeship event take place in the morning, specifically for local schools, to help support the next generation of school leavers make an informed decision about their chosen career field, whilst a lunchtime session for employers will provide advice on how to recruit and upskill their workforce whilst increasing social value for Walsall residents.
