Man injured in chip pan fire which sparked evacuation of Walsall apartments

Residents were forced to evacuate flats and a man was injured after a fire broke out.

The man was sent to hospital with injuries to his hands.

The blaze was caused by a chip pan at a home in Waterfront Way, Walsall, at around 3.45am on Thursday.

Ten firefighters attended the scene, with the first crew arriving within two minutes, along with one ambulance.

A spokesman for West Midlands Fire Service said: "The whole block was evacuated because the alarms were going off due to the chip pan fire on the ground floor.

"One male was injured and got out of the property. He suffered burns to his hands."

Chip pans are dangerous, the occupier of this flat had a lucky escape when he put water on his chip pan and only received minor burns."
