Suspect charged over street attack in Walsall town centre
A teenager has been charged after a man was attacked in a town centre.
Officers were called to reports of an altercation in Bridge Street, Walsall, at around 2.50am on Sunday.
A man, aged 20, was found with head and hand injuries. He was taken to hospital for treatment, where he remains today.
He had been attacked by three men who followed him and some friends.
The offenders then left the scene in a black car, which was quickly stopped by officers nearby.
Two men, aged 18, were arrested on suspicion of wounding. Officers also seized a machete from the car.
The 17-year-old was charged with wounding with intent and possession of an offensive weapon last night.
He was remanded in custody and appeared before Walsall magistrates today.
Sgt Lynsey Damm, from Force CID, said: “Investigations are currently on-going. The man suffered a serious injury to his hand following the attack that requires surgery.
"If anyone saw an altercation between two groups in the Makoto Club in Walsall, followed by a further altercation in Bridge Street shortly afterwards, please call my officers on 101 quoting log 286 of 14 January, or alternatively call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
