Walsall Council have warned bin collections have been missed due to Storm Eleanor

Walsall Council stated that the inclement weather which had battered Britain with gusts up to 90mph this week had damaged the main waste disposal centre at Fryers Road, Bloxwich.

It means that several collections due to take place today were cancelled and would not be carried out until next Thursday, January 11.

The council was still playing catch-up from the heavy snowfall and subsequent icy roads over Christmas.

Residents had already put up with several weeks of disruption when the same facility was severely damaged and closed in a large fire last November.

A Facebook post from the council said: "Storm Eleanor has caused structural damage to the waste facility at Fryers Road and waste and disposal services have been affected.

"As a consequence, some colleagues scheduled for today, Thursday January 4, have been cancelled.

"If your collection for today has been cancelled your bins will next be emptied on Thursday 11 January."
