Protest outside of Walsall Council House against plans to tender out children and young people's services.

Ahead of a children's services scrutiny committee meeting, members of the Walsall's Against Cuts group rallied against the proposed outsourcing of services to Change, Grow, Live, a national organisation.

The meeting was called after five Labour councillors raised concerns over the plans, claiming that a bid from Palfrey Sure Start to take over the services would have been better for thw borough.

Walsall Against Cuts campaigner Martin Lynch said: "We have been contacted by a number of parents about this and there is clearly some concern about the changes.

"We are pleased that the plans have been called in for further scrutiny but we had to show the council how strong the public feeling is on top of that."

As a result of the meeting, the decision will go back to cabinet on the recommendation of the scrutiny committee.

Councillor Mohammad Nazir, who called in the decision for scrutiny, said: "I think that if a local organisation is looking after services for local people, that is better than a huge national organisation because they know what people want and need."
