Man taken to hospital after car ends up on its side

A motorist was taken to hospital after a collision with a tree which left his vehicle on its side.

The collision took place on Gower Street, Pleck, Walsall at 2.50pm on Thursday, with two ambulances and two fire engines called to the scene.

The driver, a man in his 40s, is believed to have suffered 'a medical episode' at the wheel prior to the crash but managed to escape without injuries.

A West Midlands Fire Service spokesperson said: "We were called to reports of a vehicle that had ended up on its side after colliding with a tree on Gower Street in Pleck.

"A man was trapped inside the vehicle and we sent two fire appliances, containing ten firefighters in total, to the scene."

West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesperson Jamie Arrowsmith said: "We believe that the driver suffered a medical episode prior to the collision which may have caused it to happen.

"However, he was fully concious when ambulance crews arrived and had suffered no injuries as a result of the crash.

"He was taken to Walsall Manor Hospital due to the medical incident prior to the collision."
