Community groups from across the borough were left needing to find £4,000 towards traffic management costs after some of the funding to close roads was withdrawn last year.

Walsall Council will contribute 30 per cent of traffic management costs, up to £1,000, but the Police and Crime Commissioner for the West Midlands pulled out of the funding in 2016.

Councillor John Murray, who represents Aldridge Central and South, said: "There had been some doubt as to whether or not the traditional parade and service, at which more than 30 wreaths are laid by members of the community, would go ahead this year following a decision by Walsall Council not to fully fund the annual event.

"However erlier this year, a small group was formed by members of Aldridge Rotary Club, representatives of The Royal British Legion and the three Aldridge councillors, who were determined to maintain the tradition of remembering those who paid the ultimate price in defending our freedom in war and conflict.

"This has been achieved through some hard work and very generous donations from local residents, community groups and businesses.

"The group is also committed to raising the necessary funds to ensure that the parade and service will go ahead every year on Remembrance Sunday for the foreseeable future."
