Councillor Adrian Andrew, who represents the Pheasey Park Farm ward, has launched the petition, calling for bans to be put in place on Barr Beacon and Doe Bank Park.

Travellers arrived at Barr Beacon on Friday morning.

Petition papers will be placed in shops around the ward from today, with the potential for an online petition to be launched in the future.

Councillor Andrew said: "We had no problems with travellers on these sites until the injunction for 12 sites across the borough came in.

"I think we need some support here, especially because of the war memorial on Barr Beacon.

"I don't think it is right that this memorial for those who fought and died for our freedoms is treated as a home for travellers.

"Petitions will be put in shops across Pheasey Park Farm from today and I hope the public get on board.

"With Barr Beacon, I think it is a borough wide issue so we should be backing this."

The petition will be presented to Walsall Council in the future, councillor Andrew confirmed.
