Walsall mother and son admit faking her death in £140,000 fraud
A mother and her son have admitted plotting to fake her own death in Zanzibar to claim a £140,000 life insurance pay-out.
Arafa Nassib, 48, of Lower Rushall Street, Walsall and her 18-year-old son Adil Kasim admitted conspiring to commit fraud against Scottish Widows between March and December 2016.
Yusuf Abdullah, 24, of the same address pleaded not guilty.
The trio were granted unconditional bail until July 12, when Nassib and Kasim, of Lower Rushall Street, Walsall will be sentenced and the case against Abdullah will also be mentioned on that day.
City of London Police brought charges against the three people last month after an inquiry into allegations Nassib had died in an accident in Zanzibar.
The paradise island, which is off the coast of Tanzania, is more than 7,000 miles from the Black Country town.
In a statement confirming the charges, police said Nassib was arrested in February when she returned to the UK from Canada.
