Jamie Platt, 26, of Halford Crescent, Coalpool, appeared at Walsall Magistrates Court in relation to the death of Mavis Storey, who died after being hit by a silver-coloured VW Golf in August last year.

The 88 year old was just yards from her home when she was hit crossing the junction of Bloxwich Road and Leamore Lane.

Mr Platt is charged with one count of causing death by dangerous driving and his case was moved to Wolverhampton Crown Court by magistrates, with no plea entered by the defendant.

Mrs Storey was taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham with critical injuries on August 13 but pronounced dead later that day.

She was described by her family as ‘a loving mother and sister who will be dearly missed’ in tributes released by West Midlands Police.

Mr Platt will appear next at Wolverhampton Crown Court on May 3.
