Plans lodged to turn pub and restaurant into a house
A village pub and restaurant that closed last year is set to become a private home.
The team at The Wheatsheaf in Oulton, near, Stone, announced on social media in September that the renowned venue was closing following the difficult times faced by many small businesses.
Now an application to convert the Kibblestone Road building into domestic use has been submitted to Stafford Borough Council. The proposals also include turning the car park into a garden.
Neighbour Julie Shaw, who was a regular at The Wheatsheaf, said at the time: “It’s a huge loss to the village because it’s been a pivotal part of it for the past five years or so. People come from all over because the standard of food was so high.
“It’s come as a shock. I didn’t see it coming but it’s such difficult times – there will be a lot more well-run businesses that will drown in these difficult economic circumstances.
“It’s not for want of support. During the pandemic they were fantastic doing takeaways.”
