Stone Town Council has decided not to hold the event, but said there will still be Christmas lights and some new displays.

Councillor Jill Hood, chairwoman of the council’s tourism and town promotion sub-committee said: “I am saddened that due to the current situation we have been forced to cancel the actual switch on as it’s an event that everyone enjoys.

"We have spoken to Father Christmas and he has promised to come to Stone for the 'virtual' switch-on of the lights, which residents will be able to view remotely. Details will follow."
